Last night I got sucked into watching Iron Chef yet again. Every time I flip to the Food Network and see this show I just crack up. Oh the pagentry! They don't cook in a kitchen, they create in Kitchen Stadium. They don't have a bake-off, they have battles. Last night it was: Battle Cranberry. There's a chairman in charge of the battle and a floor reporter to give us the play by play (how else would I know that Bobby was braising cod cheek instead of just white mushy stuff?)
How can you spend an hour watching four chefs (it was a team battle) cook with cranberries? Apparently, as I discovered, very easy. I love Bobby Flay, so he's easy to watch. And I love Mario Batali. Last night Bobby was paired with Giada De Laurentis and Mario was paired with Rachey Rey (Rachel and Mario won). As much as I love to make fun of how serious this show takes itself, I can't change the channel until I discover who dazzled the judges. Usually I pick the chef with the best dessert (and last night it was Mario and Rachel, so I think my system works).
