I'm a big believer of the small world theory. There have been so many times that I've been in random places and come across someone who knows someone I know. Here are some examples:

- Was in a Chicago bar with some guys waiting for a few of their friends to arrive. When the group got there, it turned out that my best friend from sixth grade, who I hadn't seen in more than fifteen years and who just moved to Chicago from Connecticut, was one of the people we were waiting for. How random is that?

- Was in Jamaica on vacation when I noticed a guy on the beach who was the spitting image of my cousin in New York. Turns out this guy knew some other people staying at the same resort, and introduced me to them. The guy he introduced me to worked for the same company my father used to work for, and now works next to my cousin all day long. And the guy that looked like my cousin? Fraternity brothers with a guy I went to high school with in Connecticut.

- My husband was on the phone with a client when he learned the guy used to live in Chicago. Turns out he worked with my next door neighbor.

- We used to go to the same resort in Anguilla every year on vacation so we got to know that manager (who, it just so happens, knew the manager of the country club my parents lived at in Arizona, and where I got married). Then one year we decided to try somewhere else. When we arrived at Little Dix we were greeted by the resort's manager, the very same manager that used to work at the resort in Anguilla. He'd gotten a new job.

- My junior year of college I returned back to school after Christmas break and was headed up the front steps of my house (that's a dorm to those of you who didn't go to Smith). There was a car in front where a guy was unloading stuff for another girl in the house. When I looked over I noticed it was my sixth grade boyfriend.

- My room mate my freshman year in college was from Kinnelon, NJ and ended up transferring to Vassar. A year after college I was working in Arizona and met my friend Kari, who was also from Kinnelon. And, it turned out, she was my ex-room mates's best friend in elementary school.

- When I went to the Rhode Island School of Design during my sophmore summer of high school, I dated a guy who was from Rhode Island and going to be a freshman at Brown. My best friend at RISD, Kate, was from La Jolla, CA. Turns out, some 15 years later, Kate's sister ran into this guy in Idaho skiing.

- Speaking of RISD, my room mate that summer was a girl named Jessie from NYC. Eight years later my best friend from Smith was working at Harper's Bazaar and told me about a girl she worked with in her department - yes, it was my old room mate Jessie.

Have I proven my point (and no, my point isn't that I've had a lot of random boyfriends)? It's a small world, so be nice.
