Can you guess what this is to the left? Here's a hint: that's a bakery box. And the stuff inside is what happens when your mother attempts to Fed Ex you a wedding cake from Arizona to Boston. And that's exactly what my mom did (being the sweetheart she is). My parents were in Scottsdale, AZ for a few days this week, and that meant they were also in the same city as the bakery that provided my wedding cake, Cathy's Rum Cake. It's so amazing, but they don't ship cakes so I haven't had one since that fortituous evening almost 13 years ago when I cut a four tiered cake and embarked on married life.So when my mom told me they were going to Scottsdale, I asked, ever so kindly, if she'd get a cake and Fed Ex it to me. Which she did. And it was amazing. Just as perfect as I remember - the icing, the strawberries, the rum soaked cake and the custard. Of course, this time around they all got blasted together by the Fed Ex man who didn't heed the "Fragile" label on the outside of the box. But it doesn't matter. I planned on eating the cake straight out of the box anyway. And this way my kids aren't asking for any because it's just about the most unattractive thing you've ever seen. Even if my mom did spend $97 to ship it to me. It was worth every pulverized penny.
